Daddy is an allegory that represents the struggles of a modern Syrian family. This movie covers many issues - from chemical weapons to the oppression of women - set against the backdrop of modern America. The main antagonist of Syria is President/Dictator Bashar Al-Assad, who uses force and threats to control his people. In our movie, the father Rick assumes the role of the Dictator who uses any means to control his family. Angela, his wife, represents the women in Syria who are oppressed yet want desperately to break free. The son and daughter, Tyler and Natalie represent the youth of Syria, utilizing the liberty of technology in their pursuit of freedom. Tyler expresses his desire to get rid of his father through an email with a friend across the world. Natalie attempts to sneak out, and is punished by "the Dictator". The lawyer, Derrick Roschard, represents those who are torn between their loyalty to the Dictator and the fire that rages in the rebellion. Finally, the chemical weapons represent a complication in the conflict as they are a real threat to the Syrian people. The ending is symbolic of what will happen to the country of Syria, as they will split into two separate countries, one a dictatorship controlled by Al-Assad and the other a democracy.
