Nikki like any other 13 year old girl enjoyed the small things in life. But before she knew it, all of that was taken away from her. In the flash of her eyes, the life she once knew turned into a world of neglect, torture, and abuse. Although Nikki was worried and afraid, she came to find comfort when she met Angelica: one of thirty five other girls that were soon to become family to them. Together, the girls are determined to escape a world that remains unknown territory for Nikki, but an all too familiar world for Angelica.
Human trafficking is a issue that takes place worldwide, even in the United States. Human Trafficking is a form of modern day slavery, where people profit from the control of others. This is mostly common for the use of sexual exploitation, forced labor, and sexual labor. This leave victims emotionally and physically abused, and leaves their voice unheard for many year. It is estimated that there are 100,000 children in the sex trade in the United States each year. The solution for human trafficking is to raise awareness to the topic. Between 14,500 and 17,500 people are trafficked into the U.S. each year. It is hard to prevent this from happening all together for the fact of how big the problem is, and how low under the radar the traffickers go. But this doesn't mean we can't make this number go lower and lower every time we hear the word "trafficking". Right now human trafficking keeps growing and is expected to take over drug trafficking.
