China is the home to thousands of booming industries and is steadily rising to the top in many competitive categories. But hosting the 1.3 billion people takes a dramatic toll on the country and the citizens. Overpopulation is becoming a growing problem that questions the stability of this everlasting civilization. With overpopulation, comes a mountain of issues, including malnutrition. Together, these lethal issues create an environment that is inhospitable for the citizens that are trapped there. The overpopulation issues in China are currently being handled by the communistic government. Their solution was to install a one child policy. But with this strict restriction, comes heavy consequences. The low fertility rates is the most obvious problem that will result in a high number of elders with few people to take care of them. Insubordination of this rule results in forced abortions conducted by the government. Lack of geriatric aid is only one problem for this prospering country. The amount of food in this communistic country is not being divided evenly. There is not enough food for everyone and, as a result, many people who do not have the money to buy their way to the top, are left to suffer. Malnutrition is rapidly expanding across this growing nation with no signs of it getting better.
Within the next fifteen to twenty years, our hope is that this major issue will improve. The ancient country is undergoing a huge transformation of modernization. In the future, there is going to be a type of reform before this issue goes out of control. We have modeled this film after the current state of China. Since the government of China is mostly centered around the economy, we predict that this issue is going to continue to grow.
The Walk shows the details behind the reform of a hard working, Chinese, government official, Lie Jie. His dedication was sparked by his difficult childhood, which was silently controlled by the overpopulation issue that was swallowing country. Behind the glamour of China, was Lie Jie's family, shriveling in hunger. In the middle China's booming economy, was Lie Jie's father who's taxi business steadily crumbled into dust. With no financial support, his family was forced to nibble on the small portions that they could salvage. Although home was not always the most welcoming place to be, his parents always encouraged him to forget his troubles and focus on his education, as knowledge was the only way out of cycle of malnutrition. With persistence, Lie Jie was able to provide a better life for himself as an adult. He may be unexposed to the reality of China as an adult, but childhood struggles stick to him. Lie Jie wants to prevent anyone else from experiencing the difficulties of malnutrition. Therefore, he is standing up against the communistic country and using his platform to modify China's solution. Overpopulation might have been an inevitable issue for China, but that does not mean that it is impossible to improve. The improvements are not going to be noticeable overnight, but like a walk, after some time and slow progress, China will finally reach its goal of eliminating overpopulation.
